1. A Place to Take Notes.

You can never be too prepared to receive revelations. Do not be left without a means to record a prompting or other forms of inspiration that may come to you as you watch General Conference. Many times this could be as simple as a dedicated note on our phone, but it can also be nice to have a study journal by your side!

2. Your Scriptures and a Scripture Marker.

New Developments in LDS Scripture Translations

Not only should we be making time each and every day to study our scriptures, but we should be bringing them to every church meeting that we attend as well because you never know when revelation will hit from the Spirit. Just like in a church meeting, General Conference is filled with the Spirit, and will surely give you promptings. Scriptures are ALWAYS shared during general conference, and sometimes in ways that we didn’t interpret them on our own, and having the scriptures there so that we can mark them up and write our feelings in them is a good way to make sure that you can remember those feelings next time you read, study, and ponder those verses.

3. A Broken Heart and a Contrite Spirit.D&C 136

Having a broken heart and a contrite spirit is a sure way to receive revelation. In Doctrine and Covenants 136:33 it says “For my Spirit is sent forth into the world to enlighten the humble and contrite”. So, what does this mean? It means that in order to receive revelation from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, we must be humble and open our hearts to the messages being shared with us during General Conference. Some good ways to do this are to make sure that you pray before each session, asking that your heart may be open to the promptings of the spirit, and after each session, thanking Heavenly Father for everything that you received as revelation. Humbling yourself in prayer to your Heavenly Father shows your love towards Him, and shows your gratitude for everything that He has blessed your life with.
