SALT LAKE CITY — A Latter-day Saint missionary is safe after she reportedly was kidnapped in Guatemala on Saturday evening.

“Church officials worked over the weekend with local authorities and she has been released,” said Daniel Woodruff, a spokesman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “The sister missionary, who is from Honduras, is safe. We are grateful this situation is resolved, and we are working to help the missionary and meet all her needs moving forward.”

The woman was serving in the Guatemala Quetzaltenango Mission. The church has six missions, 49 stakes and 14 districts in Guatemala. There are 441 congregations and more than 277,000 Latter-day Saints living in the country.
