This Conference was amazing! There were so many great talks, it’s hard to keep track of them all! Here’s a little list we made of our favorite quotes from each Apostle and First Presidency Member during October 2018 General Conference:
(Note: quotes are in order of seniority, not chronological order)
“My dear friends, in such moments [where new members feel that they do not belong], those of us who are at different points in the long journey of discipleship must extend a warm hand of fellowship to our new friends, accept them where they are, and help, ove, and include them in our lives. All of these friends are precious sons and daughters of God.”–Elder Soares, “One in Christ,” Saturday Afternoon Session.
“My testimony is–for those who seek, allow, and life for it–the dawn of faith, sometimes gradually, will come or can return. The light will come when we desire and seek it, when we are patient and obedient to God’s commandments, when we are open to God’s grace, healing, and covenants.”–Elder Gong, “Our Campfire of Faith,” Saturday Afternoon Session.
“The ultimate goal of our Heavenly Father is not for His children to do what is right. It is that His children will choose what is right, so that we can grow up to become like Him.” –Elder Renlund, “Choose You This Day,” Sunday Afternoon Session.
“The Lord Jesus Christ Himself said, ‘I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep,…and I lay down my life for the sheep'(John 10:14-15)…I find abiding peace in knowing that ‘the Lord is my shepherd,’ (Psalm 23:1, emphasis added) and that each of us is known by Him and under His care.”–Elder Stevenson, “Shepherding Souls,” Sunday Afternoon Session.
“Take heart, brothers and sisters. Yes, we live in perilous times, but as we stay on the covenant path, we need not fear.”–Elder Rasband, “Be Not Troubled,” Saturday Morning Session.
“Along with the bright colors of happiness and joy, the darker-colored threads of trial and tragedy are woven deeply into the fabric of our Father’s plan. These struggles, although difficult, often become our greatest teachers.”–Elder Andersen, “Wounded,” Sunday Morning Session.
“To persevere firm and steadfast in the faith of Christ requires that the gospel of Jesus Christ penetrate one’s heart and soul.”–Elder Christofferson, “Firm and Steadfast in the Faith of Christ,” Saturday Afternoon Session.
“We trust you to counsel together and to seek revelation for implementing these adjustments–while not looking beyond the mark or trying to regiment individuals or families…The announcements made today will result in profound blessings for those who enthusiastically embrace the adjustments and seek the guidance of the Holy Ghost. We will come closer to our Heavenly Father and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, of whom I am a sure witness.”–Elder Cook, “Deep and Lasting Conversion to Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,” Sunday Morning Session.
“I pray we can recognize the Lord’s work as one great worldwide work that is becoming ever more home centered and Church supported. I know and testify that the Lord is revealing and ‘will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God'(AoF 9).”–Elder Bednar, “Gather Together in One All Things in Christ,” Saturday Morning Session.
“The healing hands of Jesus Christ reach out to all who seek Him. I have come to know without a doubt that believing and loving God and striving to follow Christ can change our hearts, soften our pain, and fill our souls with ‘exceedingly great joy.'(1 Nephi 8:12).”–Elder Uchtdorf, “Believe, Love, Do,” Saturday Afternoon Session.
“I testify of the tranquility to the soul that reconciliation with God and each other will bring if we are meek and courageous enough to pursue it.”–Elder Holland, “The Ministry of Reconciliation,” Sunday Morning Session.
“I testify that the vision President Joseph F. Smith received is true. I bear witness that every person can read it and come to know it is true. Those who do not receive this knowledge in this life will surely come to know its truthfulness when everyone will arrive in the spirit world. There, all will love and praise God and the Lord Jesus Christ for the great plan of salvation and the blessing of the promised Resurrection when body and spirit will once again be reunited, never again to be separated again. How grateful I am to know where my precious Barbara is and that we will be together again, with our family, for all eternity. May the peace of the Lord sustain us now and forever is my humble prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.”–President Ballard, “The Vision of the Redemption of the Dead,” Sunday Morning Session.
“The Savior is the Rock upon which we can stand safely and without fear in every storm we face.” –President Eyring, “Try, Try, Try,” Sunday Afternoon Session.
“When we seek the truth about religion, we should use spiritual methods appropriate for that search: prayer, the witness of the Holy Ghost, and study of the scriptures and the words of modern prophets.”–President Oaks, “Truth and the Plan,” Saturday Morning Session.
“My dear brothers and sisters, I promise you that if we will do our best to restore the correct name of the Lord’s Church, He whose Church this is will pour down His power and blessings upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints, the likes of which we have never seen. We will have the knowledge and power of God to help us take the blessings of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people and to prepare the world for the Second Coming of the Lord.”–President Nelson, “The Correct Name of the Church,” Sunday Morning Session.
We know that these brethren are prophets, seers, and revelators, and that as we follow their direction the Lord will guide us and help us share His gospel as member missionaries.
