1. You do not need to be in the Conference Center to find Christ.

Speaking in the October 2019 General Conference, Elder Jeffery R. Holland teaches that “we don’t have to be in a conference center to find [Christ].”[i] We may find Him while we read the Book of Mormon.

  1. You may still want to put on your Sunday Best.

Elder L. Tom Perry taught that “[Christ] not only expected us to stay away from worldly places on the Sabbath, but also to dress appropriately on His day. … If our dress deteriorates to everyday attire, our actions seem to follow the type of clothing we wear. Of course, we would not expect our children to remain dressed in their church clothes all day, but neither would we expect them to dress in clothes that would not be appropriate for the Sabbath.”[ii]

  1. The Church has Resources for Children and Youth to help with General Conference.

If you have children that you are unsure how to keep them occupied during conference, the church has activities to help children at: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/general-conference/activities-for-children?lang=eng The church also provides a “Conference Notebook” for the youth of the church to use to take notes during the various speakers. Check it out at: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/new-era/2020/03/general-conference-notebook?lang=eng

  1. Actively participate with your Family During General Conference.

Being with your family in your home provides you with the opportunity to learn with them. You could ask individual family members gospel questions to help with discussion and then look together for the answers in the message. You could also decide on quotes that you would like to learn as a family.

  1. It will not be enough to just watch General Conference.

Elder Richard J. Maynes taught that “We cannot get our bodies into good basketball shape by simply watching basketball on television. Similarly, we won’t be able to get our testimonies in shape by simply watching general conference on television. We need to study and learn the fundamental principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and then we must do our very best to live them.”[iii]
